On road 4×4 and SUV Tyres
4×4 and SUV on-road tyres will be used pretty much exclusively for on-road and motorway driving. Tyres designed for SUV vehicles have a similar tread depth to car tyres, but the tyre tread depth will have the ability to perform in mild off-road conditions. 4×4 and SUV on-road tyres offer comfort, performance and good handling when driving on road.
Mud Terrain Tyres
Used predominately for off-road driving, mud terrain tyres offer an aggressive tread pattern with large gaps between the tyre tread blocks to ensure you don’t get stuck in the toughest terrains. Off-road tyres offer enhanced grip and traction in mud and off-road landscapes which offers great tyre performance in these circumstances. We recommend that mud-terrain tyres are fitted to vehicles driving around 80% off-road and not for 4×4 vehicles that drive substantial mileage on-road/tarmac.

All Terrain tyres are typically used by 4×4 and SUV drivers who spend time driving their vehicles both on-road and off-road. Choosing the right tyre can be difficult. Every tyre that a manufacturer makes is designed with specific strengths in mind. How well the tyre preforms to these strengths depends on the construction methods, materials used, and technologies applied in the design and testing process. 4×4 tyres introduce even more variables than these into the mixing pot.
If you are intending to use your vehicle off road, then you need to determine just how extreme the terrain is likely to be and how much time you are likely to spend on it.
We strongly recommend that 4×4 vehicles are fitted with identical sets, with all four tyres being the same brand, size, pattern, and load index/speed symbol. The reason for this is that the rolling circumference and overall diameter specifications can vary dramatically, between brands and patterns, as all tyres are made within a tolerance from the standards set by the governing body ETRTO (The European Tyre and Rim Technical Organisation). This is important advice as some vehicles are very sensitive to tyre mixing. On some 4×4 vehicles, serious transmission damage can occur if all 4 tyres are not replaced at the same time. OFF ROAD GRADING INDEX
Note that this is a subjective rating. Each tyre is assigned its level of off-road ability according to a combination of our theoretical and practical experience, coupled with manufacturer and consumer feedback. Also, note that generally the more aggressive the tyre the less competent it will be on road. Although the very best tyres like General Tire and BF Goodrich will still have good road manners, you will find that tyres generally become noisier when they are more off-road
